*Phew* we are almost all caught up
so here is the sum up of the first chunk of 2016...
JANUARY
-Ben becomes a sunbeam in primary!
Abby is the only child in her age group again but this year we bumped her up
with the class one year older (last year she was meshed in with the class one
year younger). Also she is doing great with school we are getting the hang of
it all. The kids did an indoor soccer league to stay active and have fun- it
was great!
-1st real snow accumulation...small
bits at first then spotty lake effect days here and there throughout most of
January and February...nothing like last year... crazy how we've witnessed 2
opposite record breaking buffalo weather years so far.
-Rob's sinus surgery recovery-
Initially this was super rough. He was in lots of pain but we basically had to
wean him down to basic Tylenol and ice to avoid experiencing all sorts of crazy
side effects (sweats, chills, sleeplessness, grogginess, panic attacks,
hallucinating type dreams etc.) It was an interesting couple of weeks but after
they took the plugs out he progressed so well. Ward members helped out by bring
a few dinners and Brother Allred came to help babysit the kids one day too… he
has been so nice to look out for us all the time.
-Waffle brunch at Brunner's
-Rob begins new job at Autumnview
-Rob begins new semester at school,
rotations at ECMC
-Scout winter camping
-Mac- flu (back near thanksgiving)
turned bronchitis turned pleurisy turned sprained ribs and back muscles then
started to get better and re-injured it all while exercising... so
miserable...(ended up having to wait for a couple months to really exercise or
lift anything again) so thankful that is over.
-Kids were wishing for better
weather so we put on swimsuits and had a popsicle "pool" party in the
bathtub. Messy but fun.
-New Welker nephew Ammon Dode Welker
was born to parents Jacob and Tiffani Welker.
FEBRUARY
- Switched primary care doctors for
Rob and Mac... new ones are closer and so much better!
-Had 1 snow day from school (but it
was a total bummer because it was the day the kids were supposed to celebrate
valentines-made our first set of elementary school valentines they turned out
great- and the 100th day of school) oh well...
-Stomach flu
-Free family swimming time at
Frontier HS
-Trip to Idaho for Ashley and
Edward's wedding!!!
MARCH
-Much milder winter than last
year... a day this month was 64 degrees compared to the same day last year at
37 degrees
-Easter- church devotional and
singing in the choir
-Mac does a bunch of babysitting for
the Reyes family and for the Baker family
APRIL
-General Conference
-Our 8th Anniversary
-Abby's 6th birthday
-Ben was chosen/accepted to the upk
(free preschool through the district) program for 2016-17
-Worked on an awesome family
spring/earth day project... did some measuring, got some wooden boards, sanded
and spray painted them, and nailed them together to put on cinderblocks as
garden shelves for our patio.
MAY
- Got a few plants and started a
garden for Mother's day
-More adventure walks
-Cinco de Mayo homemade yumminess
-Rob finished up his semester and
begins working more
-Ben quickly got croup and we spent
the night in the ER
-Mommy Abby haircut and mall hangout
date
JUNE
- California Trip for David and
Jenni's Wedding. Spent time with Grandma Angela. Did lots of hotel swimming and
family time. Visited Grandpa James and Auntie Anna's gravesites.
-Barnes N Noble free books for summer
-Spray for spiders
-Fireflies, adventuring, Hamburg
beach, and lots of park exploring...Hamburg Community Park (wooden park) the kids
first time on a tire swing. And charlotte elementary park, secret park though
the woods behind our house. Pirate Park.
-Rob's 30th Birthday- we made his
favorite homemade angel food cake and homemade ice cream. Got him a
personalized 1986 t-shirt. Made an awesome picture display of pictures of him
from every year of his life.
-Father's day. Trip to Buttermilk
Falls and Robert Treman state parks. Camping, swimming, hiking, parks, AND
visit to the Priesthood Restoration site in Harmony/Susquehanna PA... also
stopped to snag some pop its and sparklers for the upcoming 4th of July
festivities (almost impossible to find in NY but there are TONS of fireworks to
buy in PA)
-Swimming and visiting teaching at
the Wingel's house
-Abby starts Town of Hamburg tennis
lessons (1.5 hours every Monday for the next 7 weeks)
JULY
-Independence Day festivities in
Orchard Park- with Packer, Feher, Wade, Flitton families- hike, parade- hike-
fireworks.
-Titus Family visit- Mom Dad Danny-
Grammy’s book/story time, Papa’s bedtime songs and puppet shows, Uncle Danny’s
snap chat...haha... Niagara falls Maid of the Mist and Texas Roadhouse, Palmyra
sites and Hill Cumorah pageant, Woodlawn beach day and kayaks, downtown visit
Canalside D’Youville surrey bike ride and picnic.
-Abby's 1st lemonade stand- put up
fliers in each building of the apartment complex for the week before, gathered
supplies, set up and it was a hit! Tons of nice neighbors came by to generously
support her. She made $50- bought some fancy Nancy Clancy books and saved a
little for other future fun things.
-Berry picking at Awald
-Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra
concert at Chestnut Ridge
-Bison’s baseball game -markdown
Monday, new shirt for my birthday, fat lip from Ben's noggin
-Mac's birthday- homemade coconut
ice cream and german chocolate cake
-Temple trip... feeling really
chaotic lately and NEEDED the peace. So nice to finally get to the temple. Took
turns (Rob went in for an endowment session while Mac watched Abby and Ben-
then we switched and Rob watched the kids while Mac went in for initiatories)
-Peter Whitmer farm- church
historical site where Joseph finished translating the golden plates and the
church was officially organized
-StonyBrook state park camping,
hiking, swimming
-Face painting, bike riding
(teaching Abby two wheeler), kite flying, park playing, free family swim at the
middle school, family tennis practice.
***Doing these recaps has been so
good/crazy/weird. It makes me think of just how super busy life can be. Even
though some of the trials or some of the mundane normal days seem to drag on
for a while- all in all everything goes by so quickly. Time is precious in that
a lot can happen in 1 year. I think of some very important short thoughts:
Count your many blessings and name them one by one. Make your time and efforts
meaningful. Lift where you stand. Bloom where you are planted.
